Simple Steps to Decorate a Credenza with Décor Accents
A client asked for help for a beautiful credenza she purchased for her bedroom to go below a television. She was at a loss of what to put on the piece because of the TV size and placement of a sound bar. We easily added a few accessories to pretty up the credenza without making it look too busy. I wanted to share with you a few tips to add some décor without making it overwhelming. This is in her bedroom. We did this all for under $150 with pieces picked from HomeGoods, a great spot for some quick design accessories. The light and the gold hues give this piece personality!
Here are few tips for you to try if you have a table or furniture piece that needs updating with accents:
- Using Table books is an easy way to dress up a table. They also give height to areas so I like them either in the middle by themselves, or anchored off the side where a lamp, frame or plant could be put on top of them to draw the eye up. In this case, we put them in the middle since we couldn’t block the TV, but since this is a long piece, the center couldn’t be empty.
- Soft lighting adds some drama, so look for a table lamp to add to a spot and use a low watt light bulb that can be used as an accent piece and left on during the day when you are home. I love having a light on that draws your eye. A classic look is this Tinsley Lamp from Serena and Lily, which is one of my favorites, and perfectly scale in design for a table or credenza.
- Add height by using a box, like in this photo, and an accent piece. Keep with a like-minded color scheme so there isn’t a lot of competition amongst the accent pieces. Using gold is one of my favorite ways to add panache. Or go with the scheme of all white, mixed with some marble or gold pieces.
- Anchor both sides with different objects and sizes. If you aren’t worrying about blocking a TV, you could anchor it with two matching table lamps, each with something different near it to give it personality. Don’t be too matchy-matchy. It never works well! If you are going with the lamps, you could also bunch some different size ginger jars in the middle. That is one of my favorite looks!
